Exploring Batu Caves

February 7, 2017June 20, 2017 Suzanne Bhagan18 Comments

We take the train to Batu Caves, the last stop on the line running from the center of Kuala Lumpur. I'm happy to announce that I have a short story entitled "Homecoming" published in We Mark Your Memory: Writing from the Descendants of Indenture. To mark the centenary of the abolition of indentureship in the British Empire (2017–20) this volume brings together, for the first time, new writing from across the Commonwealth. It is a unique attempt to explore, through the medium of poetry and prose, the Indian indentured heritage of the twenty-first century. I consider it a privilege to be included with so many great writers from around the world. The official publication date is 30 April, 2018 but you can pre-order copies from either the University of London (UK) or SAS Publications (UK). See link in bio for more details. #WeMarkYourMemory

Here's a tongue in cheek listicle I wrote for the travel website, Matador Network, about how to piss off a Trinbagonian (person from Trinidad and Tobago). If you're a local, does the list ring true? What did I miss? See link in bio!
Derek Walcott, St. Lucian by birth, was a boss when it came to literature. The Nobel Laureate knew how to reinterpret literary classics to make them distinctly New World and Caribbean. Have you ever read his poetry or seen his plays? #nationalpoetrymonth
I guess it's no secret that I like to read novels with strong female characters. Pictured from left to right: 1. Ghana must Go by Taiye Selasi 2. Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden 3. Small Island by Andrea Levy What characters do you like reading about?
“It is true that those we meet can change us, sometimes so profoundly that we are not the same afterwards, even unto our names.” - Life of Pi by Yann Martel
